Notes on Matching Strength

These options allow you to specify how loosely your search term should be matched against the text that is to be searched. For most English text, select 'primary' to look for words regardless of the use of capitalisation, and select 'tertiary' if you want to search for specific use of capital letters. The other options are more useful for foreign languages.

• Primary
  Matches letter in the loosest possible way. Upper/lower case differences are ignored, use of accents on letters is ignored and for the Japanese language the selection of hiragana or katakana characters is ignored.
• Secondary
  Like primary, but accents are treated as significant. This option allows you to distinguish between words that have different accents, e.g. 'esta' and 'está' in Spanish while still ignoring case, so 'está' and 'Está' will match.
• Tertiary
  Words must match in case and use of accents. However, use of variant unicode characters for representing accents will be ignored.
• Identical
  Words will only match if the numerical unicode values that represent each letter exactly match.
