Upload a File

This page is used to transfer a file from the local file system of the computer you are using around the Internet to the server where it may be accessed by others (=upload). Please read the instructions and warnings below before you use this page to upload a file.

Instructions

• Make certain that the file you want to upload is not open in another window.
• Press the browse button.
• In the dialog box that appears use the appropriate control to view files of all types.
• Use the dialog box to select the file you want to upload and then press the OK button. (The file name should appear in the box next to the Browse button on this page.)
• Select the "Upload" button.
• If you see an error message seek help.

Copyright

It is your personal responsibility to verify that you have permission from the copyright holder to upload the file(s) to this web site. Text graphics and other media files may all be subject to copyright control. The system administrator(s) of this web site accepts no liability for any breach of copyright you commit but reserves the right to delete files which it suspects might breach copyright law.

Viruses

It is your personal responsibility to verify that the file you intend to upload does not contain a virus. OUCS will make efforts to detect and delete infected files but will accept no liability for the consequences to users of viruses that escape detection.

Offensive Material

College regulations on use of the Internet apply equally to the use of this site to publish material. Authors should make proper use of access control where material is essential to study for some students but may be offensive to others (for example, some images for use by human biology students may fall into this category).

File and Folder Names

• No forward or backward slashes are allowed in file names.
• Names are normally restricted to 250 character long. (Certain names must be shorter.)
• Upper and lower case letter are preserved but a web addresses using differing case will still work.
• If you upload a file to the same folder as a file whose name differs only in case that file will be overwritten by the uploaded file. E.g. if MyFile.html already exists and you upload myfile.html the second file will replace the first file.
• It is acceptable for your file name to contain space characters but the web address of the uploaded file will replace spaces with + characeters because web addresses must not contain spaces.
• Web addresses should normally stick to alphabetic, numeric, hyphen, underscore and dot characters. Other characters in your file name are acceptable but in the web address of your uploaded file these characters will be coded using a sequence like '%nn' where nn will be a two character code for the replaced character.
• There is a restriction of 250 on the length of the name of your file after special characters have been encoded. Since encoding increases the length of a file name there may be cases where a file that seems to fit the restrictions cannot be uploaded because its coded name is too long.
• For technical reasons you cannot use file names that start with the sequence "bs_template_".
• Please note that you can't use the form field below to rename your file before uploading - do that in your operating system before you use this form if you have to.
