The tool was originally created by Jon Maber in the Learning Development Unit of The University of Leeds. In summer 2004 Andrew Booth in the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the University of Leeds added the Multiple True/False question type and updated the IMS import/export to IMS QTI version 1.2 and kindly donated this code to the Bodington project. Later in the same summer Jon Maber added the Strict Multiple True/False and Multiple True/False/Don't Know question types, added help pages and made other smaller improvements.
This tool is designed primarily for practice assessments. Like in an examination the questions are all made available together and the student can attempt them in any order. It can also be used for formative assessments. It could be used in a computer room with invigilators for summative assessment but this is not recommended since multiple choice question papers can be delivered in the examination room more simply and cheaper using computer marked cards or sheets. The advantage of the computer delivered MCQ paper is that the student can be shown their mark and the correct answers immediately after attempting the practice/formative paper.
This tool has been present in Bodington since its first version. In version 2.1.1 it was updated with three new question types and a number of other more minor improvements.
