Create External Web link

Create New External Web Link Here

Please bear in mind that this is a new pilot service. In particular you should be aware that it is not yet possible to delete links. You can however create your own personal "refuse" room and move them there. Also note that, like other Bodington resources, only you will have access to the link immediately after it is created. If you create many links you will have to laboriously set access rights for all of them. In the future we will attempt to streamline this process. Important - there is no way to control access to the external web site: ONLY access to the page in this site that contains your link to that resource can be restricted.

Container Access: Access controlled by containing location. If you check this people who are allowed access to the containing location will also get access to the new resource. If this is acceptable it could mean that you do not need to edit the access control list for this resource.
Name: The link consists of a page in the building with an introduction and a hypertext link to an outside resource. This name is the short name of the page in the building that will introduce the link and will form the last part of the web address of that page. It has to be unique to resources in this location and if you plan to move the new link page the name must be unique in its planned location. Names must contain only lower case letters, numbers or the underscore character and must be no more than 12 characters long.
Title: The title that will appear at the top of the introductory page for this new link and in navigation text that links to it.
Description: The description will appear in directories of locations in the building for users who have "see" access to the link. Use this to explain the purpose and usefullness of the site you are linking to.
Introduction: The introduction is the text that will appear on the introductory page for the link. Use this to provide notes on the effective use of the web site that a user can read before jumping to that site.
Full Web Address: This is the full web address of the Internet resource you want to link to. It should include the protocol, server and address. Please note that there is inadvisable to link to resources that are not publicly accessible on the Internet. Most browsers will show you the full web address of a resource if you can navigate there and it may be possible to copy and paste the address into this form.
